acm @ dowling

The acm programming competition is, simply put "Write these programs in the least amount of time that do the following:" (except that the problems given require some thought). The official site is at  http://icpc.baylor.edu/icpc/ .

Guys from Dowling College (thats right: guys) have been participating in this contest since time immemorial. Last year we sent three teams to the contest, that stood 15th, 29th, and 36th respectively. We belong to the "Greater New York Region", and so we are pitted against Cornell, Yale, Columbia, NYU, and our neighbors SUNY, and Hofstra. Regardless of that we often beat them to dust (at least during the first few hours of the contest).

To get a taste of the problems and solutions, please visit http://www.acmgnyr.org/ .

Preparation for the 2003 ACM Programming contest has begun. Interested students must meet every wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in Kramer Science Building 101-A. See here for more. A couple of training articles for using standard techniques are also being written (see maze.html). If you'd like to contribute, send an email to the address given below.

To have your code for a particular problem published, you may send an email to trip5761@dowling.edu with the subject "Code: Problem #, Year, Region".

To organize a contest in Dowling, contact Petko, Rohit, or Dr. Bernstein. Also check out PC2, to download the contest software.
